Humbling Message!
I received a very emotional email from Kofi that left me in tears. He explained to me how the new school in Ghana has attracted more and more students since I left back in April. There are now 70 students enrolled at Idea & Ideology! This is all thanks to the countless donations from friends, family and complete strangers! Over $5000 dollars was raised throughout my time in Africa and it has gone towards the development of two very important projects! The school, and of course, the food program for the SMART KIDS at Buduburam Refugee Camp!

NDC Has Won!
Hi Everyone!
I don't know how many of you view the Blog anymore but I had to declare my cheer happiness at the NDC's win in December. Kufour and his corrupt goons are history!! Professor Mills and his party can now go about bringing honor back to this beloved country. Now the people of Ghana can have hope that Ghana can be the prosperous and rightous country it should be!!

Cheers,
Heather

Pics of Food Program!
Hello Everyone!
Yes! I am keeping my blog up and running. There's going to be plenty of news coming your way in the next few months. This is an easy way to keep in touch with everyone and to post pictures!
Prosper will be arriving here sometime in Late June, early July. He's just finishing up the publication of his new book "The Search for Greener Pastures" which highlights his experiences with racism in Britain, the U.S and China. Not to mention, a great deal of information about Ghana and the UN. It's a wonderful read and I can't wait until it hits the market!
I was just sitting here on this Long Weekend Monday realizing how much I miss Africa and I realized I never posted any pictures of the Food Program at the Liberian Refugee Camp. A wonderful lady in the Fort donated $1,200 so I could set up a food program each Saturday afternoon for the SMART KIDS to enjoy.
Our first few meals (which believe it or not, I helped cook!)were traditional Liberian meals of rice and stew and jollof. Jollof is a rice meal cooked with small chunks of meat and carrots. You also mix in tomato sauce to give it flavor and color.
I'm so proud of these kids! They obtain incredible marks, they all aspire to change our world, and that's all with only one small meal a day!

Little Angels! And simply because of their birth right, they are being forced to suffer a life of hunger and disease. And that's in a country of exile, away from their beautiful country. As the kids told me often, "We've never even seen Liberia. We want to go home."
Peace,
Heather

Home Safe and a Bit Sad!
Hi Everyone,
Well, I'm home and freezing to death! Leaving Accra was emotional for me, especially leaving behind Prosper. But he will be joining us by the end of May I hope! It was a balmy 35 degrees when I departed the beautiful land of red clay, and the moment we hit Frankfurt I developed a stuffy chest and a runny nose. I just about boarded another plane back to Accra.
I wasn't even all the way home before missing everyone. Africa has made such an impact on my life in the short 8 months I was there. I have made so many friends in Ghana, and I desperately miss my little kids. It was very emotional saying goodbye to Kofi. Being the longest serving volunteer at the school and developing such a wonderful relationship with him and his family, it was difficult for both of us to see me off. But I will for sure be returning in the new future!
I am thrilled to inform all my friends and family that the new school is complete and looking spectacular. It's a strong structure that will last for many years to come, and the children are very excited to learn in their new classroom! Already, there have been many new students who have enrolled in the school from around the community, and Kofi has said it's due to the new school.

Kofi and Kadio. Kadio is a Liberian friend from Buduburam Camp!

Here are a few pictures of Prosper and me at Keta beach!

My farewell at Buduburam Refugee Camp. A very emotional event. I was crying like a baby!

I'll keep posting!

Good News for a Change!!
Hello to Everyone!
Well, just over 4 more weeks and I will arrive in Calgary. My first time in Africa is quickly coming to a close, and although I will miss Ghana incredibly, I am thrilled to be coming home! I miss my "white man's" food, my comfy bed, my leather sofa and all my movies. But most of all, I miss my Ma and Pa and all my friends and family.
Prosper is hoping to make the trip to Canada around the same time. I hope he can get his Visa and Work Permit in order quickly and book a trip to the COLD COUNTRY soon! He's so sad to have missed the coldest, snowiest part of the year! (NOT!!!)
My latest news article has appeared in the Fort Record.
http://cgi.bowesonline.com/pedro.php?id=10&x=story&xid=382331
It details my wonderful, but extremely "brief" volunteer work on camp. I'm going to miss my Liberian friends a great deal!
Alright, 32 more sleeps and I'm on a plane headed home! Can't wait!
Peace,
Heather
